Manchester United are interested in signing Angelo Stiller from VfB Stuttgart, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The well-known and well-respected Italian journalist has revealed in GiveMeSport that Man Utd director of football Jason Wilcox has been following Stiller for a few years.

Romano said: “One of the names being linked to Manchester United is Angelo Stiller, a central midfielder who has been shining for years at Stuttgart and is also part of the German national team. 

“A quality player, he is ready to make an instant impact but also has great potential in terms of future development.

“What’s the truth about his situation? Sources confirm the appreciation by the Red Devils, as Stiller has been on their shortlist of players monitored for years.

“Director of football Jason Wilcox is also understood to be one of the influential figures around Europe who has monitored Stiller more over recent years, so Manchester United are surely very attentive to him and his development.

“But, despite rumours about a mission in August, nothing happened last summer and the Red Devils never started any negotiations back then. 

“Stiller is one of the names on the list, but not the only one as Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and more players are also being followed, so we can’t consider Stiller as the only option available at all.

“Sources add that Stuttgart can buy out the release clause in Stiller’s current contract until June 2028 for as little as a €2m (£1.7m) fee, and they’re expected to do so. In that case, negotiations could take place for a fee around €50m or €60m (£44m or £53m), but it is very difficult to imagine a transfer in January. It is way more likely in the summer.”
