0G (ZeroGravity) has raised $30 million in an AI node sale, the company revealed on Monday. According to the announcement, 0G sold nearly 85,000 nodes to about 8,500 operators.

The node sale follows a $35 million seed and pre-seed round announced in March 2024, which attracted more than 40 web3 VCs including Hack VC, Stanford Builders, Dispersion Capital, OKX Ventures, NGC Holdings, and Foresight Ventures.

0G is building an on-chain scaling infrastructure for AI-powered Web3 applications. It offers a data availability layer with a general-purpose storage layer and a data publishing lane to solve the trade-off of scalability vs. security.

In the latest fundraising, those who purchased nodes will receive non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that represent claims on the nodes purchased. Node operators will receive up to 15% of the 0G token supply, Cointelegraph reported.

Commenting on token structure 0G said in a statement: “By monitoring AI behaviour and detecting deviations from expected protocols or ethical standards, these nodes can help prevent AI from ‘cheating’ or acting maliciously.”

“They also play a critical role in supporting the overall robustness and censorship resistance of the 0G network by distributing control over AI alignment.” 

This announcement comes at a time when venture firms are increasing their investment in the intersection of blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. In February 2024, Hack VC closed a $150 million fund that aims to invest in early-Web3 and AI startups.
